Joanne M. Iurato Ph.D. MSW LCSW

Joanne M. Iurato is a licensed clinical social worker with a Ph.D. in Industrial Organizational Behavioral Psychology. She has been practicing psychotherapy since 1993 and has over 25 years of post graduate clinical experience. Her Masters degree in Clinical Social Work was received from Catholic University of America in Washington DC and her Ph.D. was received from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN.

Her clinical specialties are treating special needs and high risk children and their families; as well as adults coping with trauma issues.

Dr. Iurato’s treatment modalities include:
•Social cognitive therapy
•Cognitive behavioral therapy
•Solution focused treatment
•Relational therapy
•Integrative therapy

She is also a Master Certified Coach working with highly motivated persons on a variety of life issues including:
•Career advancement
•Life transitions
•Living with ADD
•Leadership/management challenges

She is also an autism specialist who has completed:
•Social Thinking® Clinical Training Level (1) Certificate of Attendance
•Post graduate training in Autism Behavioral Interventions (ABA certification training) at UMASS, Lowell, MA.

Dr. Iurato’s training includes:
•Yale Trauma Training in trauma Focused CBT for children in response to the Newtown Tragedy and treatment of those impacted.
•Certified Positive discipline parent Instructor – teaching families positive ways to effectively parent.

Dr. Iurato’s professional expertise includes:
•Working in community mental health for almost twenty years both as an outpatient therapist
•Program coordinator for special needs children and adults living with mental illness
•Program manager for special needs children and adults living with mental illness

She also worked as the Clinical Director for Danbury CT-DMHAS outpatient clinic treating adults in recovery with mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

Dr. Iurato is also a leadership trust scholar with a published dissertation on Leadership Trust and Member Motivation in Community Mental Health Centers in CT.

She also lectures on effective treatment approaches for children with:
•Anxiety
•OCD
•ADHD
•Learning issues
•Spectrum disorders

Dr. Iurato is also a child rights advocate promoting children’s special education rights within the schools and courts. In addition, she is an active member of NASW and was a delegate member of the NASW National Congress.
